Bob's Press Conference This Week

  • Wonder what smartass remarks he'll have for reporters this week?

"I'm sorry we can't score a TD every time." LOL

Maybe this week it will be, "I'm sorry that we can't have a kicker every year or get a first down in the 2nd quarter EVERY game."

No, he will appoint you as motivator and P R director. You are obviously so good at it.

  • He needs somebody. I think that's one thing we can all agree on.

  • Bob is fat, happy and arrogant at this stage in his coaching career. He needs to wake-up and go outside of his buddies and get some innovative coaching and shake up the status quo!

No, actually, it's not. He owes the media nothing. Any word spoken to them is a gift that they should be thankful to receive.

Not surprisingly, you are incorrect. He's a state employee being paid millions of dollars in an athletic conference. Both of those institutions obligate him to talk to the media. Sure, he can be an ass, as he often is, but he should probably back it up. Next time he might consider not being so arrogant, because after last night, he doesn't have much to be arrogant about.

    keystonesooner

  • He's going to say that his players got beat.. They didnt play well.. They got out coached... They didnt coach well.. Texas tech made all the plays and executed thier game plan and OU had no answers...

What else do u want him to say?

Yes he does. His occupation and his salary do not change the fact that most of those media people are parasites with very little regard for the best interests of OU or its football program. He is the guy who actually does. They are the ones who watch and talk about it. Considering his resume and the fact that most of them have never accomplished anything anywhere near the level of success coach Stoops has reached, he has long since earned the right to talk to them however he wants for the rest of his life. They need him a lot more than he needs them.

Maybe you should re-read the thread. It's not about wanting him to say things. It's about NOT wanting him to say things.

Yes, he has earned that right. I agree with you. That's not the point. The point is being wise in what you say. He hasn't been that, and this week is a great example. I agree they are parasites and little people, which is why it's all the more confounding that he lets them bother him so much, gets all arrogant, and then looks like a fool when his team comes out and proves the media correct.

After Mizzou, Kansas, the slow start at BSU etc....everyone saw the shit we saw last night coming. Everyone except Bob Stoops, who acted like a prick to anyone who dared suggest otherwise.

    Doesn't mean he's not a great coach. Just means he's a prick.

BULLSH*T! He doesn't have to be a pompous a$$ when dealing with the media. What do you think would happen if the media just stopped covering OU? Just stopped broadcasting games, reporting what happened, asking what was going on with the team? How long do you think it would be before OU fell behind other schools if the media just decided to not mention Oklahoma in anyway?

  • I guess most of you have never heard almost all the coaches out there during in their press conferences. They all sound exactly the same. Did you ever listen to Saben? Pelini? Even Gundy? Maybe you want him to be more lik Mack?

  • Bob is a great coach. Bob is a great human being. Bob is NOT a great interview. It is apparent that Bob Stoops hates and abhors that part of his job (and it IS part of his job) and ends up irritating the media. There is no love-fest going on with our local media and Bob Stoops, that's for sure. Bob does not have the personality of Barry Switzer, who could charm anyone with his candor and BS, but he could attempt to look a little more patient and relaxed, even when being pelted with stupid questions.

That said, no one would be talking about this unless it was the off-season or after a loss...

It's not so much his general attitude with the press, although his attitude generally sucks. It's that the line he chose to use this week about the red zone and not scoring a TD every time, in retrospect, made him look like a fool. He brushed off a legitimate question and tried to embarrass the reporter. In the end, he's the one that should be embarrassed, because the very thing he tried to brush off was a dagger in this week's game and the team was obviously not prepared by this coaching staff this week.

OU doesn't score consistently in the red zone and he doesn't think it's a problem? Wonder what he thinks now.

I know for many of you on this board it's virtually impossible to question the infallibility of Bob Stoops, but there is little to defend about him this week. Doesn't mean he's not a great coach, doesn't mean I want him to leave or any of the nonsense you same folks try to attach to people who question him.

Just means he got his come-uppance a bit this week, and it looked really, really bad.

You have it backwards. Media coverage (or lack thereof) is a function of demand, which will not change regardless of Stoops' attitude towards the media. If media folks stop talking about OU, they'll only be hurting themselves since their readers/viewers will quickly lose interest. For the media, it's about the $$, nothing more, and that requires eyes and ears. Stoops knows that. That's why they need Stoops more than he needs them. Media parasites are a dime a dozen. If anyone who shows up on any given Tuesday doesn't like it, there's a line of people waiting to take their spot.

I have to agree with you on this. It seems like the media and some fans want a personal appology from Bob Stoops and his staff on a loss. IMO that would put him in the same catageory as Mack Brown. Nobody feels worse about this as the players and coaches. Twenty years from now most fans wont even remember this loss, the players and coaches won't ever forget it.

Stoops sounds like a moron when some one asks a legit question about how we suck hind tit in the red zone & he gets pissed off and tries to turn it around on the reporter. Then five days later we get beat because we couldn't score a touchdown in the red zone if our season depended on it!! Stoops doesn't have to be a jack a$$ when asked a legit question. If he finds the subject touchy he needs to get up off his a$$ & fix the problem!

I beg to differ, fans remember losses.

When you look back twenty years from now, and go man, that one cost us a shot at a NC, and broke OU's home field streak. This one will be remembered for the next 50 years.

Actually most fans do have a clue. It's only simple minded fools, who do nothing but hurls insult at other posters. What most fans want is to not lose a home game to a 30 point underdog, when OU could have played for a NC.

While it was total team effort in this loss, I will say that no opposing team should come into this stadium and get over 40. 38 should have been plenty for this game. Period.
