Blockbuster NFL Trade

  • Rams trade 2nd pick to the Redskisns for a bunch of pics. This trade remindes me when the Vikings traded Dallas for Hershel Walker.

Rams will get the the 6th, 33rd and 39th first round pics this year. If I'm the Rams, I get 2 Wide Receivers and an O-lineman. Probably Blackmon with the 6th pic. Sam needs help badly. However Jeff Fisher is a defensive coach...

On a side note, the Redskins will probably take RG3 with the 2nd pic. link below for all the details

  • I believe this trade is going to be great for the Rams and Sam!!Finally some good news for the Rams!!

    frizz

  • It was a good move and I know conventional wisdom is not to take O Lineman in the first round, but the Rams need to...like you said WRs and OL all the way.

    hooknladder

  • 3 first rounders and a second to move up 4 spots is insane. Especially with Jones and Barkley coming up in next years draft. The Rams will still be able to get Blackmon too. This move just made the Rams a playoff team for years to come

Possibly, but only if there picks pan out as there is no sure thing in the NFL draft. Certainly a very smart trade by the Rams though.

When I read that last night, that was the first thing I thought of, Vikings, Dallas, Hershel Walker. That trade led to what? 3 Super Bowls for Dallas? Hope it works out as well for Sam and the Rams.

    KYSooner

  • Then pick up Broyles in the 3rd-4th round and the Rams will have had the best draft for them in years! Hope Sam has a little influence in picking up Broyles. He will be a steal...best hands in class bar none.

I don't follow your post. The article says that they get Washington's 6th pick in the first round and their first round pick in 13 and 14. They also get this years second round pick.

Can you explain those two picks in the 30s you listed?

That's very true. But this year they can still get their guy, Blackmon. On top of that, they pick up another very early second pick and since we're talkin about the Redskins, two top ten picks over the next two years.

    SoonerSeif

  • One of the picks in the 30s is the Rams second round selection, the other is the Redskin's that they get via trade. Not that they get all those picks from the Redskins, just what they will have.

    SoonerNAustin

  • Against the Blackmon pick. Think he's way overrated. Not really that big or fast. Like Kendal Wright better.

    cjsooner

  • Considering that the Rams biggest needs are OL and WR, and those positions are not often taken in the top 10, the first thing the Rams should do is start shopping that #6 pick to teams sitting at 10-15. If the Rams can drop from 6 to 10 or 12 in exchange for another 2nd rounder this year and additional 1st/second rounders in 2013 and 2014 that might be worth doing. There'll be a lot of quality OL and WR names still on the board for whoever is picking at 10 or 12, or even 14. Add that to what they got from the Redskins and wow, they'd be swimming in high draft picks.

Both are good. I think Blackmon is a little more athletic Crabtree. He's damn good! I dont like his antics or even his hands that much, but ii love his toughness. Having said that, I think Shephen Hill is the gem of this WR class 3 years from now. He's huge, fast and has excellent hands. If I were the Rams, I would go OL and take Hill and/or Floyd in the second.

  • The Rams should pull a 'Jimmy Johnson' by trading down for even more picks in the latter rounds. They need help at a lot of places, and you can upgrade RB/WR/TE in the 3rd and 4th rds.

IMO its a waste to draft a WR that high.

    Hback73317

  • Blackmon may not be there at number six. Most scouts and others have him as the number 4 or 5 pick....after Lick, RG3 and Matt Kalil (that's who the
Rams should try to get...now he's Minnesota's all the way. Good for AD and Ponder. To answer the earlier question the Rams get the Redsskins #6 pick, their own pick in the second round (#34) and the Redskins 6 in the second round #(38). Then they get the Redskins #1 for the next two years. If they can bring in a free agent WR like Vincent Jackson or Marques Colston, they could pass on Blackmon and fill their other needs.

Would it be a waste to draft Larry Fitzgerald with the 6th pick?

I think what people are saying is you can get Demaryius Thomas (22), Dez Bryant (24), Jeremy Maclin (19), Hakeem Nicks (29), Dwayne Bowe (23), Robert Meachem (27) and Santonio Holmes (25) type guys later in the first round. If you're going to take Blackmon that high he better be as talented as Fitzgerald or Calvin Johnson because you'll be paying him the same money and might be getting the same production you get from a guy like Robert Meachem. Make sense?

Right now the gurus and some teams do value Blackmon as that high of a pick. Apparently they feel he is in the class of the current greats. I also believe the rookie contracts are less now then what they were when Calvin Johnson went #2.

I still think the Rams should at least try to shop that #6 pick to teams in the 10-14 range and see if any of those teams has a strong enough desire to move up to cough up some of their draft picks like the Redskins did.

  • Some of you actually think the Rams are a rookie WR from the playoffs? I think they have an opportunity to boost their talent across the board this year, and I think Sam needs a lot of help. I still cannot believe anyone would take Griffin with the #2 pick.

I'm not saying Blackmon isn't talented or he doesn't deserve to be a high pick... What I and others are saying is that the Rams need a lot more than just Justin Blackmon. What good is an all world WR if your QB doesn't have time to through to him? Would you rather have a stable offensive line so your rookie WR might have a chance to have a great SEASON or have a subpar Oline and a WR that a couple great GAMES?

And since rookie contracts are now less, doesn't that apply to all rookies? Even guys at 15-25? So now guys towards the end of the round have even MORE value.

    TheJoeP

  • You Cowboy fans are dreaming. Washington was "good" QB play away from 4 more wins, not GREAT, simply good. They draft RG III and get their "franchise" QB for less than half the dollars the Rams paid for Sam. If he turns out to be Newton, the division is in for a shock. So, assume they become an 8-8 team, they will have given away a pair of 20-24 picks for their franchise and leave themselves $35M in cap room.

This bears absolutely NO resemblance to the Vikings trade of a washed up RB.

    capclay

  • The only two wide outs with a first round grade are Blackmon and Floyd (character issues in college) that I am aware of. I would think about trading down and pick up Floyd later for an additional 2nd round pick if Blackmon is gone by then. Maybe even using one of the second round picks to trade up and get Kalil. Either way it goes, for good PR the Rams need to get a Wide out or O-lineman. Trent Richardson could be a possibility, not sure if I could pass him up. I can't see him being a flop in the NFL. A few teams passed on AD and they are kicking themselves to this day.
