Actually, not really. But I think he should be the back up. I thought he played great.

Did you go? I heard he threw 2 perfect interceptions except they were dropped.

  • Actually heard that KT was very impressive. I would not count him out when the competiton hits after next year. The kid has some solid skills, and is going to make the issue very competative next year, mark my word.

Canyoneer has seen them both at camps, and thinks that (at least based on those) the competition will be very close.
Kendall is much better than many give him credit for, as he showed today.

So Peace, why do you believe Drew should be the back up?

I had to listen to the game and it seemed like the offense was more consistent with Blake. Perhaps I'm wrong but I did not hear anything particularly about Drew Allen.

I was not there but a few friends said Allen was more consisitent and that Bell had 2 balls that were dropped that would have been critical interceptions. I think it is still dead even. But I was not there so I am anxious to hera.

    I agree...Allen was more consistent.

    A few other personal observations:

Millard is REALLY good running the ball. IMO he should be used more in that role and it appears that may be in the works.

The OL is much better at run blocking than a year ago. I suspect the DL makes them look a little better too. Know there's injuries and youth on the DL now too.

Metoyer really looked good for being here just a short time. Future looks good for him and he has the tools to be great.

Danzel Williams looks promising. Very quick. Clay looks more comfortable back there too.

TE Brannon Green looks thin...like a WR. He just doesn't look 260 lbs. to me.

I know right from wrong. Wrong is the fun one.

  • I posted earlier in the scrimmage thread that Davoracek and Lehman were both impressed with the D-Line. Hopefully that's due to them getting better and not the O-Line not being very good.

    Irish Sooner

  • I was there and Bell looked good as were all the QBs. Bell was 14 of 19 and 196 yds.
Thompson led the game winning drive and was impressive both running ant throwing.

Per the Kittle interview Brannon Green is now around 250 but they plan on getting him back up to 260 during summer/fall workouts.

  • What were Drew Allen's stats?

  • I was impressed with Thompson and McNamara looked good also. Good to see the passes to the TE's as the game progressed.

I don't know what they said but I got the exact opposite from them to my face. C- on the defensive line and a great o-line. Now they are reserving judgement with McGee and Walker out.

  • There's a lot of football to play from now until the beginning of the season. Bell looks the part and will get more real playing time because of the Belldozer package.

Don't count out Allen...He's a pretty big dude with quick feet too. Throws a very good catchable ball.

One thing I believe is we have a couple of the best back ups in the nation.

    lifesooner

  • I thought Blake threw the ball well & Thompson will also be a factor because he is a gamebreaker & hasn't even been given the same amount of reps as the others during all spring..Kid just makes plays & looks very poised.....This is gonna be interesting to see the future battle..isnt any reason to discredit any of them at this point..

  • I think Bell wins the backup and Thompson passes Allen.

Well I guess Allen announced at the podium after the game that he is still the backup and that Blake would still run the belldozer. Very interesting.

I would take that bet any day! :-)

As of now, Bell is still the back up. Although Bell and Allen are close, Allen still has the edge. Thompson is a distant 4th. His "playbook" is limited and he has a long way to go.

I think you are right. I don't think KT passes Allen realistically. The main reason there are not really enough reps for that to happen next season unless there is a significant injury next year. I guess we will see.

  • Blake is going to contine to run the bell dozer this year if he proves to be a threat throwing out of it he will be very hard to keep off the field. I just hope whoever the back up is they get plenty of garbage minutes

Well, I guess we can scratch out BB; Drew said so… it must be Gospel, huh?
Both are great kids. Drew's a year older, knows the play book better (now), but he doesn't have the talent Blake does. Blake can take us further. I bet Drew can manage the offense better at the moment but Blake will surpass him before fall, 2013!
Blake WILL be the starter next year!!!!
I admire confidence BUT a player tooting his own horn does not a coaches decision make. (A direct quote from Yoda).
(Sorry SoonerPeace; I didn't mean to sound so sarcastic).
I'm really not that sarcastic, I'm just drawn that way - Jessica Rabbit.
