Big, BIG congrats to Bob Stoops.

  • If the story being reported on a michigan site is accurate and Montgomery has accepted the DL position at OU, this is fantastic news. IF it's also true that Christian is the front runner for the TE coaching job, then Coach Stoops has done what many of us thought he wouldn't -- make the changes necessary, hire elite recruiters, and get this program back on the level of competing with alabama, etc. Clearly, he is willing to do what it takes to be a real national championship program again.

I agree SoonerBlub and it makes for an exciting spring practice. All positive optimism after a sour ending to the 2012 season.

I'm not questioning anyone's knowledge, I only seek information on his recruiting prowess. What is it? We always knew JS was a top recruiter. If he slipped he slipped. Is Montgomery a known closer of 5* talent?

  • He has closed 5 star and 4 star talent. I believe his latest group was 1 5 star and 4 4 stars. Today, he has already spoken to two of the top players in the country for next year that he's developed a great relationship with, and gotten them excited about visiting OU.

He's considered a big loss by Michigan and one of the main reasons is he was one of their, if not the, best, recruiters. Another recruiting service widely considers him an elite level recruiter.

This guy is just what the doctor ordered for OU. Not a good solid hire, but a home run.

  • "Contract details weren’t available at press time, but sources indicate that Michigan offered a competitive compensation package to Montgomery, but ultimately he felt the opportunity at Oklahoma was one he couldn’t pass up."

I guess the reputation of our program and of Bob Stoops is not exactly the "embarassment" or "laughing stock" as some folks on here wanted to believe.

    Congratulations on the changes...exciting time.

If writing about time...only time will tell if the changes are what are needed to get us to the level of Alabama.

  • Different point of view. Oklahoma, a top program, with Texas over it's shoulder; or Michigan, a top program, with Ohio State, over it's shoulder. Not taking the compensation packages into consideration, which are assumed to be similiar. Which road would you take?

If you look from only the prospective of who the coaches are at those two schools looking over your shoulder..........Urban Myer vs. 'Ol yeller tooth.......the answer is pretty obvious.

  • Its also warmer in Oklahoma as compared to Michigan. OU has been a farm club for many of its assts to receive either HC jobs, or better assistant's positions elsewhere. I think this also proves, as Crimson said, that OU has a lot more going for her than some people think.

  • I am really excited about the new blood on our coaching staff now. They appear to be proven professionals with a lot of energy when it comes to recruiting great talent. So many here fought to keep the status quo and demonized anyone who disagreed with them. I am glad that Coach Stoops didn't listen to them and realized the program was running in idle mode and change was needed. Coach Stoops is a loyal family man so I know these recent decisions were difficult for him. I have always admired and respected Coach Stoops and that respect is only heightened with these recent moves.
