Big 12 QB's not doing well in the NFL?

  • I heard Jon Gruden say this last night. He was right in all that he listed except he said even Sam Bradford has been a disappointment. Is that true? I thought he was doing really well his rookie season. Is it because he doesn't have any receivers or pass protection?

Things are rarely perfect or totally bad. Reality=closer to the middle. Never as bad as it seems, never as good as it seems.

  • Absolutely no receivers and the line allowed 55 sacks last year, the most in the NFL. Hopefully the Rams draft some talent to go along with Sam starting today.

  • Sam got beat up so early in the season he developed David Carr Syndrome. By the end of the year, he was holding the ball far too long. When Fisher came on board, the plan for how to help Sam changed. You could see it in the draft last night, they are going to de -emphasize the passing game until they have the parts around Sam so they don't waste the $50M they have tied up in him. Gruden can say what he wants, he can't carry Fisher's jock.

  • The Rams have some major early picks coming up in the next couple of seasons (thanks Redskins). They could use those picks, along with their own, to get some immediate help around Sam through a trade. Or they could just wait it out and get some excellent talent in those upcoming drafts. The Ram's time will come. I see them as a solid playoff team in 2-3 seasons if they make the right moves.

    Stuck in Mexas

  • Sam not only has a poor O line and WRs; he has had a new HC, new QB coach, new offense to learn each of his first 3 years in the NFL.
He hasn't had a chance to learn and play multiple years in any offense he has headed up. St Louis' owners have not given him a chance to succeed. Hopefully Fisher will be around awhile.
Remind me how many wins Troy had in his first few years.

  • The Rams f### up in the draft. They should have taken at least 2 OL and 2 WR's with their 2nd and 3rd rouns picks. Instead they wasted pick on the RB from cincinnati adn the unkn WR from,,,,where, appalachian st. They could have taken the wr , jefferies from S. Carolina, Hill from Georgia tech, Jeff Fuller as a free agant, also the OT from stanford , the guard from georgia, the ot from wisconsin , a TE also. Now that would have plugged holes and gave Sammy some help. But they wasted their picks. Thanks, Fisher.

I also would have traded the number 1 pick in 2014 they got from Washington and moved back in as high as I could have with it. They need help now, not 2014. Sammy will be too beat up by then.

I agree no O Line help at all for Bradford... How can you say he has been a disappointment. St Louis was a train wreck of a team when he got there and still is on the O line. He gets sacked 50% of the time he takes more than a 3 steap drop so the defense just loads the box on 1st and 2nd down and then blitzes on 3rd and long... Josh McDaniel as a OC??? REALLY??? he is a overrated project coach that benefited from having Brady and coaching on a SUPER BOWL team that doesn't mean he was the "reason".

Sam Will be in the NFL a long time but as long as St Louis is drafting corners and kickers he will not have great numbers

The Rams need help at every position on the field.

Check out the Rams' draft. I agree you can raise legit questions. But....they dratted Brocker, a 315# run stuffer tackle from LSU in 1st round. When a team is as needy as the Rams, i can't fault drafting a DL who can help.

They drafted a 320# guard from South Carolina. He's a project, but he started for a SEC team. That says something.

They drafted a 6'3" receiver from Appalachain State. He had a bunch of catches. He did well in the combine. He might be able to help early.

They drafted Pead from Cincy. He was a real good running back. As good as any rb in the the Big 12. He almost beat OU in 2010.

The kicker had 21 consecutive field goals. That gets my attention. Cornerbacks: Yes they drafted a cornerback. ANY team needs corners who can cover.

    Thoughts?
