  • Chuy's Tex-Mex restaurant will open in Norman
A Chuy's restaurant, which is expected to open in late May, is under construction at 760 Interstate Drive.

FROM STAFF REPORTS | Published: April 25, 2012

NORMAN — Chuy's, a Tex-Mex restaurant based in Austin, Texas, is under construction at 760 Interstate Drive. Company officials say the restaurant should open by late May.

The restaurant plans to fill more than 150 full- and part-time positions. Applications are being accepted at a hiring trailer on the construction site. The hiring trailer is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The Norman restaurant is the second Chuy's in Oklahoma. Founded in 1982, the restaurant is known for fresh, affordable Tex-Mex food and distinct decor. The menu offers family recipes from south Texas, New Mexico and Mexican border towns.

  • One of my favorite things is they have a big Hatch chile fest each season. They don't do free queso or Sopapillas, I'm hoping that won't hurt their business.

  • you will love it!

  • If this becomes a reality, you guys will all have to try their chicken flautas. I live in Austin, and I've sampled close to 50 different restaurants’ take on this classic, but Chuy’s is the best one out there. Add in a half pint of queso and they’ll throw in a big bag of chips and now you have a feast!

  • Their website says it's open! I can't wait to make it to Norman to give it a try!

  • Chuy's officials told me additional sites in Oklahoma City are being sought, and we can expect to see the restaurant become entrenched around the market soon. banana

  • Why would they open next to Ted's. Maybe it's the best ever, but another Mexican resteraunt really isn't at the top of Norman's needs.

  • I went to Norman over the weekend and of course we had dinner here. We went around 4:00 and had a 20 minute wait, there was a good crowd which was surprising since it was so early. The service was good and they even brought raw dough for our baby to play with. I got the chicken flautas, the meat was really good, I do wish it would've had a sauce to dip in. I can see why the previous poster suggested queso. My husband got the steak burrito, it was fantastic! That's what I'll order next time! Make sure you ask for the creamy jalapeno dip for your chips, it's not extra and it's sooo good!

  • What are the prices like? Similar to Ted's and Tarahumaras?

The steak burrito was around $9.99 the flautas were $7.49, so a little cheaper than those two places. I'd say some of the portions aren't quite as huge, the steak burrito was really big. I'm not a drinker, but I've heard really great things about their margaritas.

  • I got a to-go order for lunch and I was very impressed by the place. It was packed, but I was still in and out in about 20 minutes, and the staff were all smiling and friendly. The guy taking my order recommended the steak burrito as well, so I went with it and it was almost TOO much food! I ate it and the rice, but stuck the beans and chips in the fridge. I got salsa and the jalapeno dip as well. I made sure to grab a to-go menu on my way out... Definitely check it out.
