Taun and others in the know...let's talk Iran

  • What the heck is going on over there? How do you see this playing out over the next ___ months? What are the key factors at play (beyond the obvious)?

  • I haven't really been following the news lately... Sort of my way of showing disgust over the political decisions affecting both theaters recently (Iraq and Afghanistan)...

If you are refering to our complete surrender and retreat ... I mean our brilliant withdrawl from there.. I see Muslim extremeists completely taking over like they are in Egypt... probably within two years for Iraq and about a year in Afghanistan...

I predict that we will be embroiled in another round of this fight in that part of the world within 10 years, because we weren't allowed to stay to complete the job...

I just say we get all americans out of that part of the country and nuke the whole area. I'm tired of hearing about it. We are in a damn if we do damn if we don't situation. We know that it probably will get more intense because it seems like they don't care about anything but their situation. What they do will effect the rest of the world. This is not a good situation be in. When we got rid of Sadaam, they pretty much let Iran free so to speak.

  • I agree on A'Stan... a hopelessly backwards part of the world that will be a painin the butt for the rest of the world as long as there are two people still living there...

But we had a darn good chance to really, stabilize Iraq... The Iraqi people (when I was there at least) were really reaching out to us for stability... The majority of the 'fighters' were from outside the country... The problem was that once we secured the military situation, we had no effective civil program - which is a direct failure of the State Department...

  • Interesting.

If I am not mistaken, isn't Iran helping the "muslim extremists"?

I agree with you about Iraq. We had some pretty poor planning with civil affairs and next steps planning. Not to mention, we had WAY too many civilian casualties which created ENORMOUS animosity.

Like you said Taun, A'stan is a mess and am not sure there is an easy answer. I think it should be a UN issue, like many African countries. We need to GTFU.

Iran will not start or even inadvertently start a war. They will continue to play games knowing we don't want a war with them. This IRAN issue is so complex and I don't understand all of the factors as play.

I think he meant that the powers that be stand to make more money (and/or political points) by not solving the problem but going back in later...

    Can't say I 100% disagree with him...

Gosh...I hope the powers that be are not that corrupt. Like you, I don't think it is too far fetched.
