No Memorial Day Story? *

  • cesooner said...

OUinsider sees it perfectly fit to post a fairy tale Christmas story on the front page every year, but they don't see it fit to honor the (very real) thousands of troops that have fought and served our country? The power of religion is shameful and downright ridiculous!

Wow, just goes to show you how different we all are...... Our country is great because we have brave men and women protecting our freedoms so posters like - cesooner can run around and abuse our basic freedoms anytime they choose. We truly live in a great country. Only a free man with a hidden agenda would twist Memorial Day and use our soldiers to make his point against a religious belief. While he hides behind freedom of speech, his deception and true intentions are frightening. The same type of agendas our soldiers have fought against for years. I am a Christian and believe in the birth and death of Jesus, but I would never tell my Jewish or Muslim friends their beliefs are shameful, ridiculous, or fairy tale. How do I really know, I believe, but honestly none of us know. We have freedoms to believe what we want, but not to force others with hateful words or force. Personally I think cesooner should be given a full year refund and asked to move on, using Memorial Day as a platform is unacceptable and hypocritical.

When you look at the big picture of college football since 1936, no program has achieved greatness as consistently as Oklahoma - ESPN.

I had no intention of weighing in on your right to practice your superstition but your extreme idiocy compelled me to refute your point of view that the poor majority are suffering at the hands of minorities. That is one of the dumbest points-of-view I have yet to read on this site, and believe me, there are plenty of dumb opinions to go around.

Right........The majority doesn't suffer at all. What was I thinking. There must be some other reason why there is no prayer allowed at the local high school football game. I guess there is also some other reason why the Ten Commandments are no longer allowed in front of the court house. You are right though. My views must be flawed. The minority voice is never heard. Only the majority voice.

  • Using a day like today to push your atheist agenda. Pathetic. Thanks for putting a cloud over the day. It is easy to tell you never served. Your rant against religion is hypocritical, as you are pushing your lack of faith of those who have. Nothing in the Christmas posts puts down atheists but your athiest ran puts down those with faith. To think people died protecting your right to do that. Perhaps you should respect that and save your sniping for another day.

This is the problem with the world today. The minority throws fits and gets their way. I'm sorry, but the majority of people on this board appreciate the fact that OUInsider recognizes the importance of Christmas. If you have a problem with this then either do one of two things. 1). Figure out why the majority of people have a belief in a higher power (and I can assure you that it is not because we are dumb, weak minded, naive, gullible , etc.) or 2), find another site that won't recognize the fact that Christ is Lord. Either choice represents a great option. Mainly because we, the majority of the members of this site, won't have to listen to your pointless rants regarding your religious views. This is a big concern for our Country. The minority complains until they get their way, while the whole time, the majority sits in silence while our rights are taken away. Come on folks!

The minority having a voice is completely justified to keep the majority from running over them. Just because a majority "believes" something does not make it true and it certainly doesn't mean they are right.

If I am considered a "ranter", I have a very small voice indeed. If you want to talk about rants, see this (http://adultthought.ucsd.edu/culture_war/the_american_taliban.html) This is a collection of dangerous rants from religious leaders that you are more likely to follow than not as a Christian. Pat Robertson, Jesse Helms, Jimmy Swaggart, Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly, Ann Coulter, Sean Hannity? Talk about pointless ranters. American Taliban is about as accurate a label as you can place on these types of "Christians".

    1) Someone HAS figured out why most people believe in God or a higher power, and it isn't because you are gullible or dumb or whatever. It is because humans have adapted the biological need for religious and a belief in God through evolution via natural selection. But that doesn't make it true.

    2) You maintain that "Christ is Lord" is a "fact"? Now would be as good a time as any to present all the evidence you have on that.

I am not "putting it down" as much as refuting it. It is not my intent to belittle anybody. As most of the people have told me with regards to the Christmas post, you don't have to read it. But I certainly understand your need to respond and contribute to the conversation.

How is not praying at a football game "suffering"?

I'll remind you as well that most all Christians believe that the New Testament did away with the Ten Commandments, which is a good thing. If we were living by the example set forth in the Old Testament, our society would look like it was designed by a complete maniacal despot.

Looks like this topic got you thinking, so it has done some good, am I right?

I don't have a problem with you thinking I should leave. But, what would that serve? The bottom line is that you will always have an opposite opinion on almost any topic. This board was not established for religious reason, but it sure looks like it is the one that has an "agenda". I am only presenting an opposing opinion, not attacking anyone.

You put down OUI so you could get readers to read your anti Christian views?

Why didn't you just title your post Religion Sucks or something? Aren't you free to express your opinion without the need to attack someone else on their opnion?

Just title your post and draw in those that want to debate with you. No need to make a fake Memorial Day thread to further your agenda. You've insulted a lot of veterans.

  • Most offensive and ignorant statement written on this Board, ever. You use a board about football to ignite something that doesn't need to be ignited. Just stupid and childish. You obviously intended to incite something and used support of the military as your cover. It is your right to believe whatever you choose, but you do not have the right to disparage others for what they believe. What a wasted time clicking on this worthless post. Please don't waste anymore of our time with this kind of hate. I know I won't be reading. Haters gotta hate....

If any veterans are truly offended, I apologize. But this wasn't aimed at them. It is aimed at OUI and their Christian agenda.

You give me way too much credit. From your post it appears that I am an evil genius, attacking our military by using a Christmas post on a football board. Far from it! If I could have conceived of that, I would really be much smarter than even my mom and grandmother thinks I am.

Again, how did I disparage? Although the post has evolved (and evolved is the right word) into a religious discussion, I have not belittled anyone. People evidently FEEL belittled when someone does not believe what they so fervently believe.

...because i had a legitimate complaint. OUI has endeavored to push a Christian agenda on a football message board. Today just proved that they should dispense with that agenda and stick with what they do best.

How can you say you are not attacking anyone when you use terms such as, "shameful", "ridiculous", and "fairytale" to describe a certain sub-population's beliefs. I respect your non-belief in the Christian Religion and do not find it shameful or ridiculous, what I do not tolerate is your use of the above words to describe Christian beliefs or any American's beliefs for that matter. This is the same intolerance that religious zealots, Hitler, and other men have believed. That you "know" what is the correct "belief" and you attack other types of believers in a subversive manner. While your words are not as strong and your actions are not as powerful as those men, your actions are concerning. Regarding your status as a paying member of this board, my opinion matters little, you and I both know that. If I was the owner, you would find another location to post your "thoughts" on this matter, but I am sure Brian's tolerance is greater than mine, that is why he is the website owner and I just post occasionally.

Leave Memorial Day out of it and title your post to fit anti religion.

Another il-conceived comment. Just exactly how is prayer not allowed? I am certain if individuals were to pray to themselves then it would be allowed. If you mean the entire audience is not forced to worship a desert-dwelling philosopher then maybe you are right.

BTW, just because the majority share an opinion, that does not make it moral or right.

It really is sad that you think you and your brethren are the center of the universe and that everybody should just accept your superstition. There are independent thinkers that think differently and while I have no problem with other people's religious beliefs, you should not feel entitled to impose your religion on others by forcing them to pray or to read your magic words at a courthouse.
