No Memorial Day Story? *

  • OUinsider sees it perfectly fit to post a fairy tale Christmas story on the front page every year, but they don't see it fit to honor the (very real) thousands of troops that have fought and served our country? The power of religion is shameful and downright ridiculous!

  • Hold grudges much? How is a lack or memorial day story have anything to do with religion? I read pro military threads on here all the time so to act like none exist is incorrect.

  • Cesooner - I understand your intent was to draw attention towards the military and we all appreciate that very much. I am in the military and feel supported by the OUI staff and members. I don't think the negative thread was warranted i.e. James/Alan, etc. appear to be very pro-military to me.

    albsooner

  • A post made by James is completely different than a whole story on Christmas.

I give James credit for supporting and respecting the job that the military does, but I don't see the same kind of support from OUInsider for the military sacrifice as they have for a fabricated Christian holiday.

  • Wouldn't it be better to just eliminate the Christmas story?

  • Guys, for all of you who gave your best for your country, you did it for jerks like cs to knock our faith.

My original post is not an attack on any poster/s. If you are serving or have served in the military, you have my utmost respect. I'm not attacking anybody personally. No Oketex, I'm not knocking your religious beliefs specifically either, I'm knocking ALL of them. Christianity, Islam, Catholicism, Mormonism, Satanism...all of them. However, my point was that I resent the hypocrisy of religion and being force fed religious ideology on a site that I pay access to for information on Sooner football. I consider Memorial Day a much more appropriate occasion for a lead story than anything about Christmas! James' personal post aside, if a lead story on Christmas takes precedence over a lead story on Memorial Day, this site has it's priorities way out of whack.

And as for my right to "run my mouth", you are right. And thank you for defending my right to run it. I appreciate the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice so that we can take on subjects like this in any forum. My childhood and best friend died of a heart attack at the age of 36, serving in Iraq. He was an Army lifer and was the greatest patriot I've ever personally known. So, yes, I take it personally. And I am rightfully offended that a fabricated holiday like Christmas appears to to be more important than Memorial Day!!! If OUI has the right to push religious ideology and dogma on a site I pay for, I have to right to oppose it in this forum.

  • Christmas was 5 months ago. Why are you bringing it up again? If you don't want to hear about other's beliefs why should they hear yours?

    LeawoodSooner

  • There is lack of comsistemcy by the OU insider staff. I have personal examples.

Bringing an end to the religious postings would bring an end to my protests. I'm bringing it up because I was waiting to see if OUI would have learned anything about their patrons after the "He is Risen" thread. OUI honors a religious holiday, but they obviously do not have equal respect for a legitimate holiday. So, I will continue to bring it to their attention as as I have to pretend to ignore the religious postings by OUI.

By all means, if it is related to this topic, please post!!!! I'm sure OUI understands that any conversation going on on this site in the off season is better than none.

Nice job of throwing your own agenda in everyone's face as we celebrate our fallen heros! You are a real jerk!

  • This is the problem with the world today. The minority throws fits and gets their way. I'm sorry, but the majority of people on this board appreciate the fact that OUInsider recognizes the importance of Christmas. If you have a problem with this then either do one of two things. 1). Figure out why the majority of people have a belief in a higher power (and I can assure you that it is not because we are dumb, weak minded, naive, gullible , etc.) or 2), find another site that won't recognize the fact that Christ is Lord. Either choice represents a great option. Mainly because we, the majority of the members of this site, won't have to listen to your pointless rants regarding your religious views. This is a big concern for our Country. The minority complains until they get their way, while the whole time, the majority sits in silence while our rights are taken away. Come on folks!

I had no intention of weighing in on your right to practice your superstition but your extreme idiocy compelled me to refute your point of view that the poor majority are suffering at the hands of minorities. That is one of the dumbest points-of-view I have yet to read on this site, and believe me, there are plenty of dumb opinions to go around.

James, this is what I'm talking about in my above post, btw. Disproportionate venom!

So schooner9, it is perfectly fine to be a Sooner fan on this board...as long as you have a religious belief? Obviously, I'm not going to cancel. I've been a member of this site (and it's iterations) for probably close to a decade, maybe more. I didn't offend you until this post?
