Just saw "Act Of Valor"....

  • I just got back from watching the movie "Act of Valor" and I give it a strong recommendation to anyone who enjoys action movies...

To those without a military background, parts may be a bit hard to follow as they don't make any attempt to explain some the military 'jargon' that they toss around...

The action sequences shift periodically from first-person (looking through the ops eyes) to standard 3rd person view and at times the camera work is 'jittery' which might put off some people... But it was (IMO) extremely believable, well shot and the 'bad guys' plot is both imaginative and chilling...

They do tend to compress the events into tight time sequences - almost all movies compress time to a point - but this one does make it noticeable as the action spreads around the globe....
(Intel is gathered in Africa and the very next scene they are acting on it in another hemisphere of the planet....)

A very enjoyable movie - extremely realistic based on my limited understanding of Naval Special Warfare units (SEALS)... and the final scene was a bit hard to watch for me...

Anyone else see it and care to comment?

  • Sounds really interesting. Is this the movie that has actual marines in it?

    No. Navy SEALs.

  • For their part, the SEALs that had speaking parts did as well as the professional actors (IMO)... Of course the action 'acting' was top notch....

At the end they did not run the names of the SEALs in the credits... Instead they ran the names of the SEALs that died in combat since 9/11 (60 of them by my count)...
