We've had some good threads on this in the past.

To be brief, they are indeed expensive and "best" is really determined by what you're looking for.

Positives:
Easier to get involved/included in campus activities, especially true at OU
Forces you to meet people and you'll have a wider social net
You'll probably graduate with some interesting memories

Negatives:
Cost
Joining the wrong fraternity

Anyways. There is no harm in going through rush. Say fraternity not frat when talking to members as a rushee though.

As far as expense - Consider the location in proximity to campus and the fact that bills, food, etc. are included before writing it off as too expensive.

If the sigeps are attracting ladies like pinkkitty I would look there first. ;-)

Hmm, lets start off with dropping the word FRAT....we don't call our country a XX$#%, so we don't refer to our Fraternities as "Frats"

When I was there FIJI's and Lamda Chi Alpha were the top two...I assume that still hold true today...

Other good ones were Delta Tau Delta and Sigma Phi Epsilon.

Being in a fraternity at OU is like sitting at the cool kids lunch table in high school.

That being said, they're definitely the best way to network in college. You just have to deal with a bunch of trust fund brats and douchers to do it.

But if you really like Jack Johnson, letting other people think for you, having the "southern swoop" haircut, and calling people bro, then you should go for it.

Unless things have changed dramatically in the last 20 years fraternities are not very expensive. Back in my day it was far cheaper than the dorms.

And I met a douche or two that were GDIs.
