1950's, 60's, and 70's TV Trivia

  • Rule 1...don't look the answers up on the Internet.

Rule 2...Post as many questions as you like, yet only one per post.

In the 50's Lone Ranger series, what was the name of Tonto's horse?

    Your turn.

    MannaSooner

  • Can I call my parents and ask them? ;)

Wait, I think it came to me, is it Silver?

    ss182

  • "Silver" was the Lone Ranger's horse's name.

Yes, you can call your life line.

    MannaSooner

  • Who was originally asked to play the part of Gilligan, on Gilligan's Island"?

Bonus points to name who was first considered for the role of Ginger...

    Taun

  • Okay, I cheated....let's change the rules....I looked on the Internet because I didn't know and wanted to know
the answer. So Dick Van Dyke's brother was the original choice for Gilligan. I remember Denver as Maynard G.
    Krebs..."Work????"

    lol No prob...

To answer the "Bonus Question" though... Jayne Mansfield was considered first for the role of Ginger (She turned it down because it was "TV" and she considered herself a "movie star"... as a result her career never picked back up and she was killed in a wreck going from small gig to small gig)...

On a side note Raquel Welch screen tested for the role of Mary Ann.... Now, that would have been interesting!!!!

  • I think Tonto's horses name was "Scout".

Who was Gil Favors lead hand on "Rawhide"?

    swpillman

  • rowdy yates played by clint eastwood. did i spell that right?

  • I'm an old guy who listened to radio before we got TV when I was six; stuff like the Green Hornet, the Inner Sanctum with the creaky door, and of course Gunsmoke Couple of questions here:

Most people know James Arness as Matt Dillon, but do you know who played Matt on radio and why he wasn't carried over to TV?

Bonus - Arness' brother was a very good actor and had an acclaimed TV series of his own - can you name him and the series?

Also, the radio Dillon did later get his own TV series - can anyone name it?

Don't know who played Matt on radio Gunsmoke, yet Jame's Arness' brother was Peter Graves who made
his fame on the TV Mission Impossible.

Matt Dillion was played by William Conrad, who later played the Detective Cannon (or was it Gannon?)... Since he weighed in excess of 250 pounds he didn't really fit the visual image of "Matt Dillon"...

He was also the announcer for Rocky And Bullwinkle...

Right you are "Cannon" - somehow a short, bald, obese man just doesn't seem like a Matt Dillon!

  • In the 60's sitcom Hogans Heroes...

What did the four main German's, Werner Klemperer (Col. Klink), John Banner (Sgt Schultz), Leon Askin (Gen. Burkhalter), and Howard Caine (SS Major Hochstetter) have in common?...

    Taun

  • hutchsalthawk said...

    All Jewish I believe.

Yep... As Werner Klemperer said... "Who else but a Jew can play a Nazi?..."

Also, (and I would have accepted this answer as well) all four served in the US military during WWII...

Not sure about the TV series(s)... but in the book and film (early 40's) I seem to recall he was called Sam...

I remember because that was my favorite book for a while and that's also my first name....

I was born in the early 50's and never read the book, yet I can remember the first TV masters name and face as if it were yesterday. Sorry, Sam wasn't the name.
