  • Why do the fools that are the local news feel that it is necessary to be on all day? Anyone with half a brain knows that its snowing and that getting out is probably a bad idea. The sad part is that these stations risk the lives of their people by putting them on the side of the road with a f****** ruler for the sake of ratings. Better yet they have people driving the streets giving live shots of something you can see by looking out your window. Don't preach to me about driving around or getting out when you send your own people out. Let people make their own decisions and live with the consequences. I hate local "news".

  • Family reports that there are 6 inches in Norman. Not quite the event expected but still a lot of snow.

    Stuck in Mexas

  • They are reporting 12.1 inches fell at the airport. 11.8 of those fell in the same day, making a new OKC daily record. cold

  • Cry me a river. What else are you gonna watch? Soap Operas? Only someone without cable or Sat TV would whine about something like this.

  • heck with the blizzard, it's the cold that is doing a lot of damage. I have a little hardware store and i'm selling out of heat tape, pvc glue and fittings, heat bulbs, electric heaters. everyone out here is freezing up some of them even said they had left water dripping all night like you're supposed to, one guy just said his sewer even froze.

  • I'm just happy there was no frozen rain this time around so Nosak didn't get any business :)

What's really annoying is that KFOR has to take up almost 50% of the screen with their closing lists and then leaves them up there for 24 hours straight since Monday night. I don't understand why they can't have the single line scroll the other channels do.

I guess I'm lucky that I only watch 1 show on channel 4 and my television never goes there otherwise.

  • If our local TV gets to annoying it's not hard find something on cable or on the internet.

But what I do find very annoying and also scary is the extremely poor snow removal we have seen in parts of the metro.
Most of our interstates may be ok by now but the job done on many of our other roads has been completely unacceptable.
It presents a danger to the public and causes great harm to our commerce.
Leaving the snow on the roads causes a lot of damage to the roads and to vehicles.
There are still many vehicles getting stuck even today.
I would have thought they would have learned valuable lessons following the 2009 blizzard?

  • When it takes so long to recover from these one or 2 storms every year over the years it’s got to be costing the local metro economy billions. In OKC many of the snow routs are said to have been plowed but they remain in poor condition. OKC hires 11 contractors to help but more are needed IMO. Blaming the crews or even their supervisors isn’t a place to find fault as they are doing the best they can with what they have to work with IMHO.

I do have a suggestion that I believe is cost effective and offers a partial solution.

Most city governments operate a fleet of heavy sanitation trucks. Just like they do in more northern locations a few of them could be equipped with quick hitch plows. Trash service is often suspended following a bad snow storm. Why not use some of these trucks and personal who may otherwise be idle to help remove some of the snow. They would very easily pay for them self’s by helping the community to get back to work quicker.

Maybe Obama has a stash we could raid? Lol

    It’s snowing again in Norman.
We have about ½ inch of new snow with a few more hours of new snow expected. Also there are several more opportunities for new snow in the forecast

  • Tulsa's main streets aren't too bad. And the city has been sending out fire trucks and other heavy city vehicles into the neighborhoods to help pack down the snow because there aren't nearly enough plows to go through them.

The area that is still absolutely terrible is downtown. People have been returning to work yesterday and today and it's still a mess. They say they can't plow downtown because there is nowhere to plow it to so they have been using loaders to pick up snow and put it into trucks to ship out. But I haven't seen this in operation anywhere downtown. Only a couple streets downtown are good enough, all others streets people are really struggling to get through.

  • For places where it is hard to plow snow such as in down town Tulsa or OKC the equipment on the link would offer a solution.

  • Well since my last posts the situation downtown has gotten much better. They have apparently decided to do what they can plowing it, because they were getting nothing done trying to truck the snow out. I've seen some plows pushing the snow into strategic spots that don't matter if they are blocked. They should have been doing this days ago.

Overall, I think city of Tulsa has cleared the snow pretty good. Downtown was the only issue before. Main city streets are decent and highways are great. They have the highways cleared all the way to the pavement.
