Granger still working on decision

I don’t know that much about recruiting these days but it always seems funny to me that folks will look at one position and if that position is not as ranked as high as they think it should be then a poor job of recruiting must be the cause. I hear stuff like poor recruiters and unable to close. I don’t see it in the same light a selling a car or something as far as closing the deal. To close a deal like a car deal the salesman will do whatever he has to and is able to do to make the deal. Most often that would be something like lowering the price, throwing in a free be or two in short just do something that the other dealers can’t do or aren’t willing to do. In recruiting a football player you don’t have those options if you want to run a clean program.

Every clean school is offering the recruit the exact same thing in general. They all sell the playing time, the TV air time, academics and the program in general. In this case if you look at this from the fence post all three schools have good programs in a big time football conference, they all have good facilities and all have their fair share of air time on TV. When all things are equal it come down to which coaching staff do you like best and relate to best. I’m sure every program in this group is very polished in how to conduct themselves with recruits. OU has a little more ammo in this area than most in our tradition, winning history and championships. Sometime that’s a big deal to some recruits but sometimes they think that’s nice but what really fires their rocket is something altogether different and they don’t wear a name tag that states what they want in a college. To most of us on this site nothing in the nation comes close to what OU has to offer and the fact that we would have given our eye teeth if we had been good enough to get an offer from them we don’t see how anybody could turn down an offer to play here. We just know that if somebody turns down an OU offer it must be the recruiting coach’s fault because the way we see it we are non-refuse-able destination. Well the truth is sometime a recruit is just looking for something different than what we are offering. A lot of recruits like what we have to offer and we are just going to have to live with the fact some kids are looking for something else.
