If Keith Ford’s late game heroics this playoff run is any indication of what we’ll see when he gets to Oklahoma, then Sooner fans better start getting excited. Ford’s Cypress Ranch Mustangs qualified for the playoffs for the first time since the school opened in 2008, and are making a memorable run.
Last week vs. Manvel in the Division II Region III-5A semifinals, Ford rushed for 133 yards on 28 carries with two scores and 145 yards on four catches, including a 75-yard touchdown catch off a screen pass. Ford had a great day, but the highlight came from his game-winning touchdown with 11 seconds left that clinched a 43-42 upset win. His performance earned him the Houston Chronicle Boys Athlete of the Week.
Ford and the Mustangs will now face the Katy Tigers in the Division II, Region III-5A finals at 1 p.m. Saturday at Rice Stadium. The winner will get a chance to play for a spot in the state championship game.
Ford is not only the leading rusher on the team with for 1,772 yards and 23 touchdowns. But he’s also the leading receiver with 14 receptions for 488 yards and four touchdowns. He is averaging both 6.5 yards a carry, and 35 yards a catch.
Ford is ranked as the 37th overall prospect in the country by 247Sports
