For Quincy Russell (6’5, 305, 5.1) of Trinity Valley Community College, Texas, these are confusing times.
He keeps saying he doesn't know what is going on. Makes it sound like no one from coaching staff has called him to at least explain the basics and sooth his nerves a little...surely this is not the case?
B. Stoops needs to be on his door step as soon as he can and making calls to him yesterday. If, OU loses this kids we are right back to last year on DT play..
I believe we are in a "quiet" period right now. I would assume they can talk to him if he calls them (coaches), but I am pretty sure they can't call and nor go see him.
I'm a little surprised that Russel or his coaches haven't been on the phone? If OU's coaches can't call players at this time then I can see his frustration.
Under normal circumstances I'm sure Bob, Mike or even Cale would be on the phone with him?
We need to hire the right guy to replace Shipp but we also need to get it done fairly quickly so he can get in here and talk to the new recruits/2014 targets and put them at ease.
He signed a letter of intent. It doesn't really matter how confused or frustrated he is. If he wants to play Division 1 football next year it will be at OU. Unless OU releases him and the NCAA allows the change. That's one big reason why you wait until after signing day to make coaching changes.
Yes, I echo those who have asked if Quincy has even been called by our staff? Just from the tone of the interview, it feels like he is really in the dark and this is IMPOSSIBLE to believe given his importance to our team.
Russell might be the key recruit in this class. Someone (Mike or Bob or both) needs to step up when they are able to (NCAA rules) and contact him to keep him up to date and assure him OU will hire a great DL coach. Improving the front 7 next year will be key for improvement by the defense.
